One of the most memorable days of my creative renewal journey visits my extended family’s homestead in Bouse and then a roadtrip to Desert Bar (NOT Dessert Bar) otherwise known as the Nellie E. Saloon nestled in the Mountains of Parker, Arizona. When my aunt and uncle first mentioned it, I thought they were taking me out for ice cream—only to realize it was actually a solar-powered bar in the middle of the desert with some of the best music, atmosphere, AND food I’ve ever experienced! This cross-country adventure has deepened my connection to photography and visual storytelling, pushing me to capture the raw beauty of hidden landscapes. I’m incredibly grateful for this experience, made possible by the prestigious 2024-2026 Creative Renewal Arts Fellowship—an Indy Arts Council program supported by Lilly Endowment, Inc.
