WEST LAFAYETTE, INDIANA (Dress Rehearsal – November 10, 2021) – Purdue Theatre’s production of Fefu and Her Friends by María Irene Fornés and directed by Raquel Lopez is an immersive adventure following the experiences of 8 women living in the patriarchal culture of the 1930s performed immaculately by a phenomenal cast. Show will open November 12 at the Nancy T. Hansen Theatre in Yue-Kong Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts, and follow with multiple digital & In-person performances through November 21, 2021. The following excerpt is courtesy of Purdue Theatre’s official website:

“Written in 1977, this early immersive drama is one of the best-known plays of María Irene Fornés, Cuban-American playwright and matriarch of Latinx playwriting and avant-garde theatre traditions. Set in the 1930s, eight women gather at their friend Fefu’s home to plan an educational fundraiser. While a seemingly simple plot, the play is anything but. As the audience moves through the stage space to engage with the scenes in a different order, Fornés dramatizes the complex experiences of women in patriarchal culture.”
