Won’t You Be Neighborly by Melodie Yvonne

People often say to me, why do you let them do that?
How can you just stand there when that YouTube troll calls you fat?
How come you don’t speak up when another artist cancels?
When they paid that white man more than you, how could you keep on dancin?

Why are you so nice when everyone just takes advantage?
Now you sit in poverty, while all their fruits are planted.
How can you just sit there while these people walk up on you
But, maybe they all have a point, and I should walk up too

Well, when I’m feelin good and I am havin’ my best day
I can tell you part of why is ‘cause I’ve learned all about Grace
I’ve seen me when I’m at my best and seen myself at less than
And if even just one person can forgive me you bet I can

I know that sometimes I am kind and sometimes feel compassion
But I also know that sometimes I can be a giant jackass
I know that sometimes I get hurt and those people are toxic
But I also know that sometimes when I hurt, it’s me that caused it

So if I can, those moments someone gets under my skin
I’ll think about a time I could’ve been a better friend
I think about a time when I’m embarrassed ‘cause I lost it
And know that we all have this inside us if I am honest

So then I offer Grace and try to hand out some forgiveness
‘Cause everybody’s got some hurt and we’re together in this
So when I’m feelin’ good I try to hand out grace and love them
‘Cause when I’m feelin’ bad I just say people suck and fuck them
